HOW TO BRAID WITH 5 STRANDS

Pass strand 1 over strand 2 and next pass same strand 1 under strand 3.

You now have two strands on the left(2 and 3), and three strands on the right (1and 4 and 5).

The pressure of your thumbs act as a tension as you braid.

Pass strand 5 over strand 4 and next pass strand 5 under strand one.

You now have three stands on the left (2 and 3 and 5), and two strands on the right (1 and 4).

Continue the over and under procedure with the three strands which will be produced  on one side to the other as
you braid.

You are always working with the three strands and always starting with the outside strand of the three strands for
the over, under step.

Add additional length to braid as you go along by adding pieces on the diagonal and steam pressing as indicated in Step
2 and 3.

Match the colors. Ex: red stand in braid with red piece from red roll.
Steam press braid on curves before sewing as work progresses.

Sew braids together with blunt end needle and lacing thread.

Always sew rug on a flat surface.

Lacing Stitch to Join Braids

Pass thread through loops as illustrated above.

Skip loops on curves so the rug will lay flat.

 How to Finish Rug

Weave into the rug as illustrated the two strands of the braid nearest to rug leaving three strands to continue braiding for another three to four inches.  Weave these three strands into the rug.  Tack securely after satisfaction has been reached
in the weaving process.
