Lets take a peek outside when the sun
is shinning. Notice how the sunlight hits
the tree trunks creating light to dark values
giving you the feeling that it is round.
Where the light hits is the high-lite (the lightest value of the tree). Here you
hook the lightest value of your swatch
and gradually use two or three deeper
values to create the roundness. Using this
simple technique you will loose the flat look
and your fiber art will become more realistic.
Watching light effects in nature is your best
teacher for landscapes. Start looking at
homes, barns, fences, etc., and you will
soon "see" a new world.
Take your own picture of the natural
beauty around you, have it blown up
as this helps you see the light patterns.
Next prepare or buy your wools, loosely
draw or transfer your picture on your
preferred backing and your off to an
original fiber art creation!
