Today we are going to simplify, yes everything we do
in our fiber art/rug hooking designs
are more beautiful
simplified and that makes life easy. So let's relax and
enjoy today's lesson.
1. First let us make a viewfinder. Take a piece of
cardboard approximately 8" x 8" and in the centre
cut
out a rectangle 6" x 4".
Plan "A"
If you
want to, sketch your design outdoors and
explore different compositions by using your
viewfinder.
At times we
see so many things and we cannot
put it all in our design so this is a natural way
to crop.
For those of
you that want to do primitive,
make your objects large and simple. Of course
you can do some light effects and cast shadows
but think
big! Apply the same principal to still life.
Plan "B"
We
are not all natural drawers however
we can successfully use our viewfinder
on
our own photography!
Blow up your still life or landscape pictures
and take your viewfinder
and search horizontally
and vertically for the design that appeals to
you.
1. Bare in mind how you will hook the
design.
Feel free to move trees, mountains, bottles etc.,
to enhance your composition any where you
please.
2. Recheck your design for simplified
shapes.
3. Think values. Remember warm
and hot colors
come forward and cold colors recede!
4. To achieve color harmony, where ever you
put one value
of a certain color we want to repeat
it if possible through out the design.
