A Fascination With Figures in Motion
Nothing pleases my eye more than a figure in motion. I am constantly looking for scenes that have people in motion, whether it is farm laborers, clam diggers or a woman at the seashore swinging her child in the air. I had the image, for the figures in the rug of my daughter and grandson, in my mind before I took the photos. I knew exactly how I wanted the figures positioned. I took many photos and from these I made my pattern.
For the "Cabbage Field" I had the idea but not the image in my mind. I live in a rural setting not far from the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, and make frequent outings
to photograph people at work in the
fields or at the shore. These captured
images of my home area are my inspiration
for my rugs.
