This evening mermaid purse was a gift to me
from Rita Jenkins. This special evening bag is hooked in velvets and other fabrics that sparkle and glisten. The hair is secured with 6 shinny pearls. The face is hooked in skin tones using wool strips. The mermaid has a string of gold beads around her neck. The body shaped like a fish tail with fins is stuffed to rise above the background creating a sculptured appearance. It is covered with brocade material in different values of gold threads. The fin is decorated with tiny blue and purple beads on top and green and pearly beads outline the body. Rita has hooked a lighter value of a shinny blue fabric to create the impression of waves in the water. She chose larger beads to give the impression of fish in the water. Rita is a beautiful fiber artist who uses
freedom to embellish in some of her artistic work. Rita is a qualified teacher of the Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia. |
