"Quiet Ripple" designed and hooked by Linda D. Ferretti

There was gentle breeze at Jones Lake on a fall day when I took a photo of this beautiful place close to home.

Reflections:

Important factors to consider when doing reflections:

1. Light object reflections are darker in value

2. Dark object reflections are lighter in value

3. Sky colors in water consists of deeper values than

the sky itself.

4. The closest part of the water to you, the stronger

the value and as the water recedes from you, it becomes weaker in value. This same principal applies to the sky.

Movement:

1. The strength of the wind will be one factor to the strength of the ripples on the lakes, ponds or ocean.

2. The wind directions will also be important to the creation of the reflected movement.

3. All moving objects in the water will be a key factor in movement in the water. Examples: children playing, beavers swimming, ducks at play, etc.

Textures:

In "Quiet Ripple" the following materials were used to create the textures of fall colors, rocks, sky and tree trunks:

Hand dyed wool for sky, evergreens, fall colors

The rocks and trees in grays, mauves and purples were done in 2 ply wool yarns

The golden fall ferns were done in 2 ply gold wool yarns in
different values, with a golden silk novelty yarn for high lights.

Light: The light was coming from the left, hence the lighter side of rocks and trees are shown.
