Things I Learned Doing "Mother with Lambs"

When using roving, twisting it a little will give it the body to pull through the backing. If using a puritan type frame, do the roving last as the teeth in the stretcher will pull the roving right back out.

I did the eyes on my lambs first and it made them big. I think doing the rest of the face first would give smaller eyes but I wouldn't change mine.

The trees were done with a mixture of yarns. I put extra twist in each single piece of each yarn, then plied them together so that it would be like a single piece of yarn. Probably just hooking them together without the extra twists would work but not give the same mix of color. (I used a drop spindle; a hand held tool for spinning roving into yarn).

The spots of color in the grass are my flowers. Wherever there was room for another little piece of yarn, I put in a little flower.

The largest areas, sky and grass, are done in fabric but the rest was done in the yarn that was supplied by LinArt Designs. I loved the yarn! It was so easy to hook and filled in a whole lot better than the fabric. Also, it was easier on my hands.

Also, it was the first time I had worked on linen, it went so much easier than other backings.
