Welcome to LinArt Designs Dye Kitchen
 
Today we will dye wool for the Purple Pansy Large in the open pot method.
 
Material Required:
 
12 pieces of natural wool flannel 32" x 12" each
White vinegar or citric acid
Dye formula using Cushing acid dyes in 1 cup boiling water:
1/2 teaspoon Aqualon Blue
1   teaspoon Plum
1/8 teaspoon Silver Grey
 
Out of 8 value swatch we chose value# 3,4,5,8 to separate the petals:
 
#3 lightest value 1 teaspoon of dye solution   1 pc of 32" x 12"
#4                           2 teaspoons of dye solution 3 pc of 32" x 12"
#5                           4 teaspoons of dye solution 4 pc of 32" x 12"
#8 darkest value 1/2 cup of dye solution           4 pc of 32" x 12"

Step 1. Measure and cut your wool.

 Step 2. Presoak your wool overnight if possible.

The Wool has Soaked Up the Dye Bath.(Color Cleared)
 
NOTE:  Stir often to create even dyeing.  Do not boil water.
 
1 tablespoon of Citric Acid may be used in place of the vinegar.
 
Several dye baths will be required.
  
            
 

Step 3. In a large open pot add 3 quarts of tepid water.
 
Step 4. Add #3 - 1 teaspoon of dye solution to your water, stir
well and add 1 pc of 32" x 12 " wool.  Simmer for at least 25
minutes, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar and simmer until the water runs clear.

 
 Step 5. Add #4 - 2 teaspoons of dye solution to your water and
repeat 3 times as in Step 4 doing one piece of wool at a time.
 
Step 6. Add #5 - 4 teaspoons of dye solution to your water and repeat 4 times as in Step 4 doing one piece of wool at a time.
 
Step 7. Add #8 - 1/2 cup of dye solution to your water and repeat 4 times as in Step 4 doing one piece of wool at a time. This will be your darkest value.
