FA002_Ocean_Scene_Nova_Scotia.jpg
Ocean Scene, Nova Scotia, Canada

"Ocean Scene"

This original pictorial was inspired by a photo taken at low tide.  It was a beautiful sunny day with the tide flowing out, leaving scalloped impressions in the sands.  The sun reflecting off the water was a painters' dream.  This piece was one of my first attempts at using fiber to create a pictorial.  "Ocean Scene" was done completely in recycled 100% wool.  A lot of blue plaid was used inside of the oval in the ocean and the sky.  This gave the setting within the frame a natural look, not pasted.  I added a satin rope for the final finishing enhancing the nautical theme.  The image size is 18.25" x 16".

Travel_Home_in_Yarn.jpg
Travel Home

Travel Home

The four seasons of Canada are beautiful, yes including our winter.  The sun sparkling on the snow is one of nature’s finest delights.  In this original pictorial, I tried to capture that “sparkle” with Christmas yarn that has a silver thread. The yellows and reds are chosen to put warmth into the picture.  The large floppy trees are used to guide the viewer’s eyes to the focal point of the couple coming home.  “Travel Home” was completely hooked in a variety of 2 ply yarns with the brown border being 3 ply. What a pleasure it is to go home!  The image size is 22” x 27”.

"The Happy Skaters"

              "The Happy Skaters"
The Happy Skaters was truly a pleasure to hook.
In this pictorial, I experimented with different
types of fibers to create textures and effects.
The sky consists of 3 different color rovings.
The snow hills were hooked in 2 different colors of hand
dyed McWorsty yarn. The snowmen literally dazzle in the
sunlight in their white color hand carded bats with crystal Mylar. The ice and snow is completed in white carded
fleece.

Late_Fall_Garden_F.jpg
"Late Fall Garden"

"Late Fall Garden" was created from a photo taken from my brother's garden at the end of September.  This pictorial was hooked in 2 and 3 ply woolen yarns.  The red wine colour is a boucle yarn used to add additional texture.  The blues were introduced to cool down the pictorial.  The variety of purple colours was increased to compliment the yellow gold of the trees.  The border is hooked in dark blue to create the frame.  "Late Fall Garden" completed size is 27.5" x 20".

Backyard_Impressions.jpg
Backyard Impressions
The inspiration for "Backyard Impressions" was captured by my digital camera on a walk behind my country home in early October.  The flaming fall tree was simply gorgeous and not to be ignored.  This pictorial was challenging, as the struggle for colour harmony was forever constant.  What colours to leave in or out was a serious question.  Hand dyed wools on a #4 cutter created the image.  The border was hooked with 100% 3 ply yarn.  "Background Impressions" is just a peek at nature's beauty in the fall.  The image size is 22.5" x 29".

FA003_The_View_From_The_Blanket.jpg
The View From The Blanket

The View from the Blanket

This original pictorial is a simple romantic theme in a seascape setting.  This young man and his blonde lady friend are looking out to sea under a full moon.  They are wrapped under the red blanket and sitting on a rock ledge.  Perhaps they are discussing their dreams of the future?  The sky was hooked in a dark blue plaid.  The moon consists of silver cord bought at Christmas time.  Where the horizon and sea meets it is very dark to create perspective in the night.  The waves are in a five value homemade swatch of sea green.  The foam from the waves is recycled wool and a few decorative pearls are added for highlights.  Most of the foreground is hand dyed values of mauve. The image size is 17” x 16".

Mother_with_Lambs.jpg
"Mother with Lambs" designed and hooked by Linda D. Ferretti

"Mother with Lambs" was a fun Folk Art Design that was hooked in a variety of wools, yarns, recycled plaids and fleece. To add texture to the Mother, I used a loopy yarn. For unity the same yarn was used for the oval frame. The sky and distant hills was done in wool strips, hand dyed. The grasses was done in hand dyed yarns. The black sheep was done with 3 Ply black yarn. The recycles are in the trees and forground. The fleece is in the sun.
